Notable Mid-Week Series:
Cubs at Nationals—
Cubs sit a game back of Milwaukee. They win Game 1 at Washington on Monday.
Nationals bullpen again melts down allowing five runs in the final two innings. Cubs bullpen nearly blew a 5-0 ninth inning lead.
Rays at Pirates—
Rays at 40-38 only three back of the Yankees and Red Sox in the AL East. Tampa Bay sits second in MLB in home runs on the season. This team has improved offensively as they are eighth in runs scored and 12th in batting average.
Pittsburgh at 35-41 still only give back in the NL Central. They win two of three at St Louis over the weekend. Ivan Nova has a good year on the mound for the Pirates.
Dodgers at Angels—
Red hot Dodgers hold a 1 ½ game lead in the NL West on the Diamondbacks. Their win streak is snapped on Monday in a 4-0 home loss to the Angels. Dodgers are 32-11 at home.
Angels are 41-39 and in the AL Wildcard hunt despite a patchwork starting staff and missing Mike Trout.
Notable Weekend Series:
Marlins at Brewers—
Marlins trading wins with losses the past eight games. Team sits 30th in quality starts on the year.
Brewers sit 11th in Team ERA. Look to rebound after dropping two of three at Atlanta.
Nationals at Cardinals—
We talked Nationals already
Cardinals are 4 ½ games back in the NL Central. They carry a two game win streak Tuesday after beating Cincinnati in a make up game on Monday.
Rockies at Diamondbacks—
Colorado lost a lot of ground in the NL West race with a six game losing streak after their 9-2 road defeat at San Francisco on Monday. Rockies starters are taxing the bullpen in this stretch with many early exits.
Diamondbacks are 49-28 on the season chasing the LA Dodgers. They have won three straight and eight of their past ten games. Arizona is second in Team ERA at 3.36.
Red Sox at Blue Jays—
Boston percentage points back of the Yankees in the AL East. Red Sox sitting in the lower half of MLB in run production as the offense has been inconsistent.
Toronto still trying to find the .500 mark after a horrible start. Still in contention at 36-39. Team sits in the lower third of MLB in runs scored and team batting.
Indians at Tigers—
Cleveland is a ½ game ahead of the Twins in the AL Central as they lose ground to Minnesota after getting swept at home in a three games series to them. They do bond back Monday by crushing Texas at home 15-9.
All eyes on Brad Ausmus he risks losing his job. Tigers are 33-42 as they returned home after a 1-6 west coast road trip by salvaging the final game at San Diego. They had dropped eight straight prior to their Sunday win at the Padres.
Yankees at Astros—
New York is 6-14 against the AL West and had dropped seven of nine until beating the White Sox at home on Monday. The offensive had cooled down a bit and there has been some poor outings from the starting pitchers.
Houston is 12 ½ games up on the Angels in the AL West race. They returned home after a winning six of seven on the road at Oakland and Seattle. Best in MLB in Team Batting and Home Runs.
Mariners at Angels—
We talked Angels already.
Good news for the Mariners as they are getting healthier. King Felix retuned to the rotation after being sidelined with an injury. Very much in the AL Wildcard race at 39-39. They sport a 25-15 record at home. They had won six in a row until dropping the final two home games to Houston.
