Notable Mid-Week Series:

Mariners at Yankees—Yankees hold first place in the AL East and Seattle second in the AL West. Yankees enter play on Tuesday winners of seven of their past eleven after a split two games with Washington on Monday. Pitching has been outstanding.

Seattle had a good home stand winning five of seven against the Angels and Red Sox. Mariners are hitting and getting good work out of their pen.

Mets at Rockies—Mets have shown a bit of life taking a three game winning streak into Tuesday’s game with the Rockies. They have shown a bit of pop with the bat in this streak.

Rockies as we have talked about struggle at home with a 11-20 mark. They have dropped eight of ten after losing 12-2 at home to the Mets on Monday. Rockies bullpen has been very bad with an ERA of 5.75.

Notable Weekend Series:

Phillies at Nationals—Philadelphia has struggled on the road with a 15-20 record with bullpen blow ups. They need to get Jake Arrieta and Nick Pivetta right as they have fallen off a bit. Pivetta did show well in a home win to St Louis on Monday.

Washington only 16-17 at home entering play on Tuesday with the Orioles. They had dropped four straight and six of seven entering Tuesday. They were swept in a three game series at Toronto over the weekend.

Diamondbacks at Pirates—Arizona holds first place in the NL West at 40-32. Their bats have woken up finally as they look to pick up their .224 team batting average. Bullpen has been sharp for the Diamondbacks.

Pittsburgh has won four of five entering Tuesday behind good pitching performances. Their bullpen has struggled with an ERA of 4.51. Pirates sit at 21-16 at home as they took on the Brewers on Tuesday.

Mariners at Red Sox—We talked Seattle already.

Boston is battling the Twins tonight sitting at 49-24 on the season and winners of five of seven on this ten game road trip. Boston has been getting solid work out of their pen with an ERA of 3.03. David Price has been effective.

Dodgers at Mets—We talked Mets already.

LA Dodgers get a clutch ninth inning come from behind win to take the first game of their doubleheader with the Chicago Cubs. It turned into a bullpen game because Maeda only went 3 2/3rd innings. Ross Stripling has been a surprise for LA in the patch work rotation. Rich Hill returns off the DL in Game 2 tonight.

Yankees at Rays—We talked Yankees already.

Tampa Bay hits a brutal scheduling spot facing the Yankees, Astros then the Yankees again here in a weekend series. They have dropped four of five thus far. They struggle scoring like most teams against quality staffs.

Cardinals at Brewers—Cardinals have dropped five of six entering Tuesday. Pitching staff has gotten torched in recent games. This is another team with bullpen struggles and hit only .239.

Milwaukee holds first place in the NL Central. They had dropped three straight entering Tuesday as their run production has been inconsistent of late. Bullpen has performed well and starter Jimmy Nelson should return after the All Star Break.

Blue Jays at Angels—Toronto starting pitching has been an issue for this team as the unit sports an ERA near five on the season. Hitting is not been good as well with at team batting average of .233. But they have won seven of ten as they host Atlanta on Tuesday falling behind early in this game.

Angles injuries to their starting rotation hampers this franchise once again. They have fallen to 38-35 after dropping the opener to Arizona at home for their seventh loss in eight games. Out are Tropeano, Richards, Ohtani, Shoemaker and JC Ramirez. Another patch work rotation until LA gets healthy.

Padres at Giants—San Diego returns home after a 5-5 road trip to face Oakland in an interleague series. As usual scoring is a challenge for the Padres as they sit 34-40.

San Francisco has fallen to 35-38. Team had built up momentum with Bumgarner returning but it didn’t last. They returned home after losing five of their final seven games of their ten game road trip. Giants lost three of four at Miami in that trip then lose the opener Monday at home Monday.
