Notable Mid-week series:

Cincinnati at Pittsburgh—

Reds are 7 ½ games behind the Brewers in the standings. We saw some offensive punch from the team as they win two of three at Milwaukee over the weekend. The team is 29th and second last in runs scored per game.

Pittsburgh has been making a move in the standings of late as they are winners of four of five entering Tuesday. They are 7 back in the standings to Milwaukee.

Colorado at LA Dodgers—

Rockies drop Game 1 of this series to the Dodgers losing 6-1 on Monday. Team is 9 games back of San Francisco. The loss to the Dodgers on Monday broke a five game winning streak. Rockies swept the Giants in San Francisco over the weekend.

Rockies helped up LA by sweeping San Francisco as the Dodgers are now 6 back in the NL West. LA has the best road record but just 16-20 at home. After their win on Monday the club is 3-1 on this home stand. Dee Gordon has been outstanding with runners in scoring position.

Kansas City at Detroit—

Kansas City hottest team in MLB as they ride an eight game win streak after topping Detroit in Game 1 on Monday 11-8. The team sits just 1 ½ games behind Detroit. KC bats have woken up.

Detroit bullpen has been an issue for the season but their starters have slumped of late. Team has fallen to 25th in Team ERA at 4.1 season to date. Justin Verlander sits with an ERA near 5 and record of 6-7 in his 15 starts. Rick Porcello’s ERA has not topped over 4.

Toronto at NY Yankees—

Toronto holds a 4 ½ game lead over the Yankees atop the AL East heading into Tuesday. The team is 21-13 on the road. The team split a four game series over the weekend against Baltimore prior to losing back to back series against the Twins and Cardinals. The offense has cooled off a bit.

Yankees west coast trip last week resulted in a three game sweep of Seattle. In Game 1 in Oakland the Yankees post a 7-0 win they drop the final two games of the series. Their nine game road trip resulted in a 5-4 record with as they lose two of three to KC to open it.

Texas at Oakland—

Texas sits at .500 and 7 back of Oakland. They win Game 1 of this series by pounding Oakland 14-8. They are winners of four of five games.

Oakland 4 ½ games ahead of the Angels in the AL West. They are 2-2 on this home stand since closing out a long east to west road trip. The pitching has been a bit inconsistent of late as the club is 5-5 over their past ten games by giving up some high run totals to opponents.

Notable weekend series:

Atlanta at Washington—

Atlanta has a ½ game lead over Washington in the NL East. They showed some offense winning two of three last week at home to the Angels. Then they open up a home stand with Philadelphia as they push across just 1 run in defeat on Monday.

Washington is in a hitting slump resulting in a four game losing streak where they have scored a total of four runs. Disappointing after the club opened up a ten game road trip winning five of their first six.

Baltimore at NY Yankees—

We have talked about the Yankees already.

Baltimore is 5-5 over their past ten games. Five games behind of Toronto in the AL East. Is their starting staff good enough to stay in contention of a division title?

Detroit at Cleveland—

We have talked about Detroit.

The Indians are just 2 ½ games back of Detroit. Cleveland is winners of three straight heading into Tuesday’s game with the Angels. Starters Corey Kluber and Josh Tomlin have performed well. The team needs a bit more production from Masterson, Bauer and McAllister.

Texas at LA Angels—

We have talked about both teams. The Angels get off the snide winning two of three last week at home to Oakland. LA Angels have had big time trouble of late against the Rangers and Athletics.

Boston at Oakland—

We have talked about Oakland.

The Red Sox are 8 ½ games back of Toronto in the AL East. They are losers of 9 of 13 heading into Tuesday. The offense has not got on track. They have been held to 2 runs or less in three straight games as they host Minnesota on Tuesday.

Recap NHL and NBA Finals. World Cup Talk. US wins and faces Portugal on Sunday. Mexico/Brazil ties. Mexico wears orange and looks like Netherlands and plays like Netherlands in a 0-0 result against the host nation. Mexico goalkeeper Ochoa with some nice saves as Brazil had some good quality chances.
