Notable Mid-Week Series:
Nationals at Cubs:
The Nationals have been hot since a slow start. They are now 2 ½ games up on the Mets. After Monday’s win the team has won eight of nine games.
Cubs are 4 ½ back of St Louis in the NL Central. They returned home 3-3 off a road trip at Arizona and San Diego. They lose 2-1 home to Washington on Monday.
Braves at Dodgers:
Braves are a .500 team. This team has no power ranking 29th in the league in homers at 26 season to date. Atlanta plays station to station offense with few extra base hits which really lacks excitement.
Dodgers still hold first place in the NL West. Here is a team that slugs homers and extra base hits offensively. Kershaw goes on Tuesday and sits with an ERA over 4.
Royals at Yankees:
Yankees broke a long losing streak with a blowout win at home to KC on Monday. They are 23-22 on the year. The hitting and pitching have digressed since the start of the year.
KC holds a two game lead over Minnesota in the AL Central. They are the top hitting team in baseball with a batting average of .286.
Notable Weekend Series:
Pirates at Padres:
Braves at San Francisco:
We talked about the Braves already.
San Francisco has been hot and is challenging the LA Dodgers for the top spot in the West. They sit just 2 games back of LA at 26-20 on the year. They are 3-2 on the current road trip after sweeping all 3 to LA a home last week.
Tigers at Angels:
The Angels are showing minor improvement at the plate. They are 23-22 and sit 5 ½ back of the Astros. They still sit near the bottom of the league in key hitting categories.
The Tigers have been streaky. They lost three straight last week then won three straight. They are now on a three game losing streak after a 4-0 road defeat at Oakland on Monday.
Yankees at Athletics:
We talked about the Yankees already.
Athletics sit in the basement of the AL West at 17-30 season to date. That’s the worst record in the AL and just one win better than the worst team in Baseball. After a four game losing streak the team has strung three wins together after a 4-0 home win to Detroit. They are 12 ½ games back of Houston.
Royals at Cubs:
We talked about KC and the Cubs already. It will Interesting to see the top hitting team in KC at Wrigley Field.
Dodgers at Cardinals:
We talked about the Dodgers already.
At 29-16 the Cardinals have the best record in baseball. They hit a buzz saw in their two losses over the weekend to the Royals pitching staff.
Nationals at Reds:
We talked about the Nationals already
The Reds at 18-26 are sitting 10 ½ back of St Louis. They are 1-7 in interleague play. Cincinnati has lost nine straight as they are struggling for runs.
Rays at Orioles:
With no Joe Madden the Rays have moved up to first place in the AL East with the Yankees struggles. 3 ½ games separate first and last place in the division at the quarter pole.
Orioles are 20-22 are in the hunt. Their offense cooled off last week against the Angels, Mariners and Marlins.
White Sox at Astros:
The Astros are still holding the top spot in the LA West. After losing the first two last weekend to Detroit the Astros responded with two road wins to split at the Tigers. Houston pitching staff is number two in WHIP at 1.16 so they don’t give up too many base runners.
White Sox are 19-23 and trail KC by 8 in the AL Central. They have lost three straight and six of seven games with lack of offense. Chicago White Sox are 12-19 against the division.
