Notable Mid-Week Series:
Mets at Cubs:
Mets still holding first place in the NL East and the Cubs are still around .500. Cubs take Game 1 of this series with a 4-3 win.
Yankees at Rays:
Heading into play on Tuesday the Yankees hold a 4 game lead over the Rays. Yanks win Game 1 of this series with an 11-5 road win. Team is 3rd in the league in home runs at 43 for the year. Rays have been inconsistent at the plate this year but sit one game over .500 heading into Tuesday.
Notable Weekend Series:
Pirates at Cubs:
We talked about the Cubs already.
Pirates sit at 16-16 heading into Tuesday. The team has won three straight as their offense has picked up.
Giants at Reds:
The Giants are 5 ½ back of Dodgers at 16-16. They just concluded a 7-3 home stand as they hit the road.
Reds are on a three game losing streak heading into Tuesday. Team hits just .236 ranking 23rd. Mike Leake has pitched great for the team.
Rockies at Dodgers:
Rockies sit in the basement of the NL West at 11-17. After a promising start the Rockies pitching is last in most areas as their relievers start to pile up the innings pitched.
Dodgers were terrible when behind after seven innings last year. This trend corrected as LA has come from behind victories this year.
Nationals at Padres:
Nationals are 2 ½ back of the Mets in the NL East as they have won five straight and eight of their past nine games.
Padres sit at 17-16. The hitting is better but their team ERA is 4.07 ranking 15th in MLB.
Angels at Orioles:
Angels are 15-17 sitting five back of Houston in the AL West. They split a four game series with Houston over the weekend as their offense struggled. The Angels are 27th in runs scored and 29th in team batting average.
Baltimore sits in last in the AL East at 14-16 sitting 5 ½ back of the Yankees despite good offensive numbers. They go 1-5 at the Mets and Yankees last week.
Yankees at Royals:
We talked about the Yankees already
Royals sit in first in the AL Central one game up on Detroit. They go on the road to Detroit last weekend and win two of three. They are number on in hitting and number three in runs scored.
White Sox at Athletics:
White Sox is 12-17 sitting 6 ½ back of the Royals in the AL Central. The team is 2-12 on the road and has struggled with hitting and pitching. Top ERA in their staff is Jeff Samardzija at 4.80.
Oakland is 12-22 and in last place in the AL West sitting 9 games back of the Astros. They are hitting a bit but the bullpen has been atrocious.
Red Sox at Mariners:
Red Sox at 15-17 and 5 ½ back of the Yankees fired their pitching coach. The team is 29th in Team ERA at near 5. They are only hitting .234 ranking 25th in MLB.
The Mariners are 14-17 and 5 ½ back of the Astros. They sweep three at home to Oakland over the weekend after a bad road trip.
Tigers at Cardinals:
Tigers are one back of the Royals with a record of 19-13. They have lost two series in a row at the White Sox and home to KC. Tigers have faced KC seven times in their past ten games and the bats cooled off.
