Sunday December 24th, 2017
Hawaii Bowl
8:30PM ET—Fresno St vs. Houston (ESPN)
Houston -2.5 with over under 49.5
Great turnaround by Fresno St as head coach Jeff Tedford has the Bulldogs playing good defense. Their four game win streak was snapped in a 17-14 road defeat at Boise in the Mountain West title game covering as a 10 point underdog.
Houston had some early struggles but won three of four to close the regular season with the 24-14 home victory to Navy. Notable 28-24 win at South Florida. Cougars move the ball for 436 yards per game.
Tuesday December 26th, 2017
Heart of Dallas Bowl
1:30PM ET—Utah vs. West Virginia (ESPN)
Utah -6.5 with over under odds 57
It was a disappointing 6-6 season for Utah. They needed a 34-13 home victory to Colorado to earn a bowl berth because they had lost six of seven prior to this game.
West Virginia is 7-5 and losers of two straight after a 59-31 road defeat at Oklahoma. Major injury for the Mountaineers with no starting quarterback Will Grier.
Quick Lane Bowl
5:15PM ET—Duke vs. Northern Illinois (ESPN)
Duke -5 with over under 47.5
Blue Devils needed victories in their final two games at home to Georgia Tech and at Wake Forest to become bowl eligible at 6-6. They endured a six game losing streak where they struggles scoring points with 17 points or fewer in five of those losses.
Northern Illinois is 8-4 and still defends well but their offense is not as good from previous versions of this team. MAC losses came on the road at Central Michigan and at Toledo.
Cactus Bowl
9PM ET—Kansas St vs. UCLA (ESPN)
Kansas St -2
Kansas St finished at 7-5 with notable victories to Iowa St and Oklahoma St on the road. They are winners of four of five.
UCLA needed a 30-27 home victory to Cal to finish at 6-6 and earn a bowl berth. Bruins have won two of three and in the loss covered at USC 28-23 as a 14.5 underdog. Bruins defense was atrocious allowing 488 yards with 282 rushing.
Wednesday December 27th, 2017
Independence Bowl
1:30PM ET—Southern Mississippi vs. Florida St (ESPN)
Florida St -16.5 with over under 49
Southern Miss finished at 8-4 picking up many wins against weak Conference USA teams. They did beat Marshall in their final regular season game 28-27 on the road as a two point underdog.
Florida St needed a 42-10 home victory to UL Monroe to become bowl eligible. Three straight wins with a notable 38-22 win at Florida.
Pinstripe Bowl
5:15PM ET—Iowa vs. Boston College (ESPN)
Iowa -2.5 with over under 45.5
Hawkeyes finished at 7-5 after blowing out Nebraska 56-14 on the road as a 4.5 favorite. Iowa either scores over 40 or under 20 in games. Very inconsistent offensive team.
Boston College showed improvement finishing with two straight victories and five wins in their final six. Notable wins at Louisville, Virginia and at home to Florida St 35.3. They can move the football for 387 yards with 224 running for 4.7 yards per rush. Though the defense now allows nearly 400 yards.
Foster Farms Bowl
8:30PM ET—Arizona vs. Purdue (FOX)
Arizona -3.5 with over under 65
Wildcats quarterback Khalil Tate at quarterback made noise early in PAC 12 play. But the struggle came on the road with losses at Arizona St, Oregon and USC as they dropped three of four with poor defensive play. In those losses the Wildcats gave up 42 points or greater.
Purdue finished at 6-6 a major improvement from last season. They defeated Iowa on the road and Indiana at home to become bowl eligible.
Texas Bowl
9PM ET—Texas vs. Missouri (ESPN)
Missouri -2.5 with over under 60.5
Texas fell to 6-6 by losing to Texas Tech 27-23 to close out the regular season. Longhorns struggled against the top teir teams from the Big 12.
Missouri is 7-5 closing on a six game win streak by scoring 45 points or greater in all six of those contests. They did not beat any of the powers from the SEC in that span.
Thursday December 28th, 2017
Military Bowl
1:30PM ET—Virginia vs. Navy (ESPN)
Navy -1 with over under 55
Both teams limping into this matchup at 6-6. Navy has dropped three straight and five of six after a 14-13 defeat to Army as a long field goal goes wide in defeat. Midshipmen has been held to 17 or fewer points in three straight.
Virginia has also lost three straight and five of six after a 10-0 home defeat to Virginia Tech. Cavaliers defense showed improvement in that defeat as they had allowed 31 or greater points in their previous five games.
Camping World Bowl
5:15PM ET—Virginia Tech vs. Oklahoma St (ESPN)
Oklahoma St -4 with over under 63
Virginia Tech after losses at Miami and Georgia Tech closed the regular season with home wins to Pittsburgh 20-14 and at Virginia 10-0 covering as a seven point favorite.
Cowboys had visions of a Big 12 title and playoff but came up short as the team finished at 9-3 with losses to TCU, Oklahoma and Kansas St. All those losses came at home as the defense allowed 44 points or greater in each defeat.
Alamo Bowl
9PM ET—Stanford vs. TCU (ESPN)
TCU -2.5 with over under 49
Stanford came up short in the PAC 12 championship game. Their undersized corners failed them in pass coverage in this defeat in their home stadium. They did pick up wins late against Washington and Notre Dame.
TCU earned a trip to the Big 12 championship game but lost 41-17 to Oklahoma. They defended well against all teams but Oklahoma allowing 41 and 38 points.
Holiday Bowl
9PM ET—Washington St vs. Michigan St (FOX)
Washington St -2 with over under 46
We have seen Washington St fall flat in big games in the PAC 12 and in bowl games. Their three losses came to Cal, Arizona and Washington all on the road by 21 points or greater.
Michigan St improved their play from last year finishing at 9-3. They have a notable three point home victory to Penn St. Spartans hold teams to 297 yards per game.
Friday December 29th, 2017
Belk Bowl
1PM ET—Wake Forest vs. Texas A&M (ESPN)
Wake Forest -3 with over under 64.5.
Wake Forest at 7-5 really picked up their play on offense. The team gains 450 yards and nearly 34 points per game. They had notable wins at home to Louisville and NC State.
Texas A&M ran off their coach after a 7-5 finish. They dropped three of five to close the regular season with a 45-21 defeat at LSU as an 11 point underdog. The season started with a horrible loss at UCLA blowing a huge lead late in the game.
