Saturday December 16th, 2017
New Orleans Bowl
1PM ET—North Texas vs. Troy (ESPN)—
Troy -7 with over under 62
North Texas put up good offensive numbers this season finished at 9-4. Got blown out 41.17 to Florida Atlantic in the Conference USA championship game.
Troy took a shar of the Sun Belt with an exciting 332-25 victory at Arkansas St as a one point favorite. Trojans woke up after a lackluster first half to move to 10-2. Trojans had a notable win against LSU but bad home loss to South Alabama after their upset of LSU.
Cure Bowl
2:30PM ET–Georgia St vs. Western Kentucky (CBS Sports Network)—
Western Kentucky -6.5 with over under 51.5
Georgia St is 6-5 and on a two game losing streak with home losses to Appalachian St and Idaho. Both teams move the ball through the air.
Western Kentucky has dropped four of five after their 41-17 defeat at Florida International to move at 6-6. Hilltoppers ran for just 2.2 yards per carry average on 31 attempts per game.
Las Vegas Bowl
3:30PM ET–Boise St vs. Oregon (ABC)—
Oregon -7.5 with over under 59.5
Justin Herbert returns healthy and the Ducks blow out Arizona and Oregon St at home to move to 7-5.
Boise St have won eight of nine to move to 10-3 after they pulled out a 17-14 home victory to Fresno St in the Mountain West title game but didn’t cover as 10 point favorites. Brett Rypien quarterback for Boise St struggles with passing accuracy.
New Mexico Bowl
Marshall vs. Colorado St (ESPN)—
Colorado St -5.5 with over under 58
Both teams finished at 7-5. Marshall have lost two straight and four of five to close the regular season. Thundering Herd did defend well this season allowing 337 yards per game.
Colorado St continued their trend from last year and that was putting up high point totals to close the regular season by putting up 52 at home in overtime defeat to Boise St and 42 beating San Jose St at home.
Camelia Bowl
8PM ET—Middle Tennessee St vs. Arkansas St (ESPN)—
Arkansas St -3.5 with over under 62.5
Middle Tennessee St became bowl eligible at 6-6 following the 41-10 home victory to Old Dominion.
Arkansas St finished at 7-5 after a tough loss at home to Troy in a game that got away from them in the second half. Red Wolves can move the football with 498 yards per game with 341 passing.
Tuesday December 19th
Boca Raton Bowl
7PM ET—Akron vs. Florida Atlantic (ESPN)—
Florida Atlantic -22.5 with over under 61.5
Akron does what Akron does so well and that is covers spreads. Yes they lost to Toledo in the MAC conference championship game but two late touchdowns got their backers the money.
Florida Atlantic built a huge lead early against North Texas in the Conference USA championship game but got backers nervous with conservative play calling allowed the Mean Green to draw closer. But in the fourth quarter the Owls pulled away and won 41-17 as an 11 point favorite for their ninth straight win and seven covers in that span.
Wednesday December 20th
Frisco Bowl
8PM ET—Louisiana Tech vs. SMU (ESPN)—
SMU -5 with over under 70
Louisiana Tech is 6-6 and made a bowl game with wins at UTEP and Texas San Antonio in the final two games of the regular season.
SMU finished at 7-5 and saw their head coach move to Arkansas. They broke a three game losing streak after a 41-38 home victory to Tulane. Mustangs struggled on defense allowing 486 yards per game.
Thursday December 21st
Gasprilla Bowl
8PM ET—Temple vs Florida International (ESPN)—
Temple -7 with over under 56
Temple in a rebuilding year finished at 6-6 with their 43-22 victory at Tulsa. They played well down the stretch winning three of four including a home win against Navy.
FIU finished at 8-4. Finished the year with home blowout wins to Western Kentucky and Massachusetts.
Friday December 22nd
Bahamas Bowl
12:30PM ET—UAB vs. Ohio (ESPN)—
Ohio -7.5 with over under 57
Good story for UAB to make a bowl game at 8-4. Blazers finished winning four of their past five games. UAB held teams to 358 yards per game.
Ohio finished at 8-4 but back to back losses on the road to close out the regular season at Akron and Buffalo allowing 37 and 31 points. Bobcats usually defends better than that.
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
4PM ET—Central Michigan vs. Wyoming (ESPN)
Pick over under 45.5
Central Michigan finished at 8-4 and on a five game win streak after their 31-24 home victory to Northern Illinois.
Wyoming finished at 7-5 with loss at home to Fresno St 13-7 and 20-17 at San Jose St. Quarterback Josh Allen is expected to play as he has been sidelined for some time.
Saturday December 23rd
Birmingham Bowl
12PM ET–Texas Tech vs. South Florida (ESPN)
South Florida -2.5 with over under 67
Texas Tech needed a second half rally to become bowl eligible in their 27-23 victory at Texas Tech. Red Raiders struggled on defense all season but held teams to under 30 points their past three games.
South Florida suffered a tough loss to Central Florida 49-42 that denied the Bulls a spot in the New Year’s 6. They lose on a kickoff return for touchdown.
Armed Forces Bowl
3:30PM ET—San Diego St vs. Army (ESPN)
San Diego St -7 with over under 46.5.
San Diego St is no stranger to triple option offense. The team finished at 10-2 but denied a spot in the Mountain West title game with a home loss to Fresno St 27-3. They bounced back with four straight wins and covers after that.
Army held on for a 14-13 victory to Navy and covered as a three point underdog. Army threw just one pass in the win and averages 1.6 completions per game. Black Knights are giving up 5 yards per carry on the ground to the Aztecs 3.5.
Dollar General Bowl
7PM ET—Appalachian St vs. Toledo (ESPN)
Toledo -7.5 with over under 63
Rockets are champions of the MAC conference with their win in the championship game to Akron to move to 11-2. Losses came at Ohio and Miami. Offense gains 511 yards per game.
Appalachian St finished at 8-4 with three straight victories after their 63-14 home victory to UL Lafayette as a 14 point favorite.
